No, we should not focus on CO2, nor on energy, but its all about land to provide (renew) energy and raw materials (including food), through the conversion and storage of direct or indirect solar energy (source from outside Earth), or storage and concentration of raw material supplies through (slow) geological processes. Both to be expressed in a yield per ha per year: either globally, a general average for mineral and metal geocycles over the entire surface, or locally, an average per hectare depending on the number of hectares of planted land*.

Land is our real capital, and as such maximizes at what level the Earth can sustainably balance or grow, and is thus the ultimate value, with a part of which man can shape his environment.

(Please note, this is physical optimization, not yet biological optimization. Then another step must be taken, regarding water use, minerals, nutrients, waste per hectare, etc.)
